Instructors & Fitness

A few weeks ago, I wrote controversial article in which I stated that people should judge the value of a potential defensive shooting instructor based on their fitness level.

The more I thought about it, the more I realized how wrong I was. As long as the instructor can convey the message, that’s all that matters. It doesn’t matter how fit the instructor is, or how well they can shoot. I let my personal feelings cloud my judgment on this issue. I take physical fitness very seriously and have it in my three tiers of personal defense.

  1. Mindset
  2. Physical Fitness
  3. Training in the Proper Context

Being physically fit can only help you with anything that you do. But, you do not have to be in shape to teach personal defense. My message was an attempt to motivate instructors to become the standard for their students. I disrespected many of my colleagues in the process. For that, I full heartedly apologize for my statements.
